The Gilston State School in conjunction with the National Partnership Grant has designed the ‘Enrolling Families Program’ to set up processes to communicate with parents and childcare centres. In doing this we will better understand the children coming into Prep and place them accordingly to make starting school a positive experience for families.
We extend ideas from pre-school and bring them into a primary school setting. We have a goal, to gain an understanding of what we need to do to help families with the journey of their child starting school.
Our staff offer support in teaching your child the basic skills and in this process, develop the appropriate oral language to enhance learning in a school environment.
Gilston State School is making connections between our knowledge and the knowledge of Brett Lush, from Nerang Early Years pre-school and childcare centre.
As the ‘Enrolling Families Program’ was funded through a National Partnership Grant, it will be reassessed each year to determine the viability of the program. The feedback we have received from the families involved has been very positive and as a result a similar program will be in place for 2015.
Keep an eye on the school website for updates and details on the 2015 program.
