State of Origin Wednesday 5 June
The rugby league State of Origin series each year
leads to a heightened level of excitement that is difficult to avoid. The media
coverage is welcome fodder for those who love the game and perhaps an annoyance
or distraction for those who do not. For the last few years at Gilston we have
embraced the atmosphere created by encouraging students to wear their team’s colours.
On 5 June students will be able to show
their allegiance to their team by wearing either a coloured T-Shirt, ribbons
in their hair, a coloured head band. Their team need not be from rugby league,
it need only be a team that the child follows or in which they compete e.g. the
chess team in which they compete, the local netball club, a soccer team from
overseas or readers club. By participating the students learn about being able
to support a team and respect that someone else can support another. The
sportsmanship created will bode well for their future.
